- Drew
and Theresa
lay on his bed, staring up at the ceiling.
- Under the cover of the
trees Theresa
sat waiting for him.
- Drew
squinted across the hall at the poster on the wall. Checklist
For Girls For Homecoming.
He rolled his eyes; why should
the girl be the one to have to worry
about all that shit?
- Stephanie
attended the regional school across the county. She was never that
close to Drew or Theresa in the beginning. Drew awkwardly tried to
make out with her at a party once before she politely informed him
that she was much more interested in making out
with his female
companions.
- A
few weeks later Theresa and Drew were watching a movie in his room
when the phone rang. It was Amber, who was barely comprehendable
between screams and tears.
- Drew
and Stephanie had photography together. They barely spoke. For
once, Drew just kept his mouth shut and did not blurt out any number
of random forms of bullshit.
- Drew and Theresa had a bad falling
out with Amber and fell in love with each other.
- Drew started
laughing until the glare Theresa gave him made him realize this was
not funny.
- Theresa kept her
distance; she hated the way Amber allowed herself to be treated like
a trophy girlfriend for boys in bands who claimed to be feminists to
get their dicks sucked.
- Junior prom was the night that
Theresa and Drew got together.
- Theresa was waiting for Drew on campus
the morning after the towers fell.
- Drew
and Theresa
lay on his bed staring up at the ceiling.
- Neither
Drew or Theresa enjoyed making love.
-
Before he could do anymore harm to the universe, or the time space
continuim, Drew jumped over his bed and asked Theresa to go out for
coffee.
- Theresa drove home from teaching each
day listening to right wing radio.
- Meaningless sex, as Theresa mocked him nearby, wasn't just meaningless anymore.
-
Drew and Theresa made love often during this period, trying to recreate
that pair of hips and mashing it up with the third's alluring mind.
- Amber got her driver's
license first,
so Drew and Theresa sat in the back of the boyfriend's band van while
the boyfriend, whatever his name was, sat up front being his usually
pleasant self.
- Theresa announced a few hours ago that there would be no funny stuff until they got their work done.
- A disgusting
Powerbar and bottle of water later, Drew and Theresa are sitting on
the curb behind the convenience store.
- Drew watches
each for a few minutes before leaving the basement and following
Theresa down the street to sit in front of the town library.
- After slaying that guy who is laying in a morgue, or wherever, Theresa
vanished for the summer of 2004.
