According to Wired, in his new book J-Pod Douglas Coupland has created a character named “Douglas Coupland.” This character is based on internet rumors about himself which include meteorite collecting. I like the idea of a “meta Doug” as he puts it being out there. A second, invented, personification of ourself is an interesting writing tool for fiction I think.

However, don’t we already do that everyday? Isn’t the William who posts on this blog a “meta William?” How much of me is created for this blog, or for other people? How much of me am I really at anytime? I hope I don’t exude a Meta William who is a cynical attempt at a public persona, or what I think my public persona should be.

Hopefully Meta William and I have a relationship similar to Borges & I.
