Recently read: Television by Jean-Philippe Toussaint.
After reading about Television over at The Litblog Co-Op in 2006 I finally got around to reading it. Derik Badman’s reference from another essay to Toussaint’s novel being “an epic of the trivial” sounds pretty right on for me. And timely: recently I have more or less given up on watching new television shows. Inspired by others who have done it, I am going to wait to shows to come out on Netflix in the summer before watching them. I am making two exceptions for this: Doctor Who because, well, it’s Doctor Who (and Torchwood as well)! The new series of Battlestar Galactica is the other, mostly because the waits for their DVD sets seem to be a lot longer than the average show. Otherwise, everything can wait. I will look into more from Toussaint soon.
