One of the few voices in the news media I feel like I can trust is Amy Goodman. I really enjoy listening to Democracy Now!’s daily podcast. Goodman has a very diverse group of people on the show and tackles news that mainstream and so-called corporate “liberal” media outlets won’t go near. Here are a few interviews with Goodman I have read recently: One from November that Working For Change did and another from 2005 that The Nation did.

I try to listen to the podcast regularly but don’t. Amy Goodman seems to instigate sometimes from a very clear ideological perspective and that is often a turnoff. She makes mistakes/word slips that show this. It definitely detracts from what could appear to be a bit more objective. The pro-Palestinian bombers/Castro shit is something without which I would be fine — among other things. Not to say that there aren’t heaps of demonizing in the media beyond reason, but I don’t get it sometimes. It’s as if they care to omit some things for their perspective, and it makes the overall delivery week. And, the McGovern/Kucinich debate with (I forget, honestly) was sad on both sides. I don’t think it does as much as I would like to not create sides. Although, I am always up for Clinton criticism and I love when they had on Tasini/Nader and coverage of Pasado among other things. It definitely has tons of value, but it’s not the news bible nearly as much as MSNBC isn’t.
Also, I picked up that Calvino “Hermit in Paris” on your suggestion and I really enjoy it. Actually, it was a Christmas present. I also got “Failed States” which I started last night, and Zizek’s “Iraq: the Borrowed Kettle” through which I am about half way. This is among other things.
Party down, Bill. How doyou keep spam down? I am wanting to restart my blog.
Yeah that Kucinich debate w/ McGovern and the other guy was terrible. I cringed at a lot of the stuff Kucinich said; he just isn’t that impressive. Sometimes I just listen to the headlines and skip the rest of the hour. Nevertheless, I’d rather listen to DN! than watch MSNBC or whatever.
Hermit In Paris is one of the best books I have read all year. Mine was a gift too.
I keep the spam out using a plugin called akismet. You should be able to get it via the WP website.
I SHOULD get it. I’ve seen it. I think I was having problems. Some plugins work fine, other things confuse me. I’m no master of disaster on here.
How about those Redcheeks photos!? That’s great.
Kucinich is an interesting presidential candidate fom the big Ds. Unfortunately, Feingold isn’t running who would be the only one from that party to make me intrigued. Yeah well. I often just listen to headlines and see who the guest(s) are. Sometimes it will be a lady on a phone in UAE who speaks very broken english and I think, yeah, maybe I’ll tune in next time. Not because what she says is unimportant, but I will drift when trying to listen and could be listening to Pat Buchanan on SOMETHING I’m sure. He’s on everything.
I will continue Hermit in Paris once I finish this Zizek book. maybe.
